The Grand Cat Opera: “Mice, Milk & Moonlight”
(For a Female Choir of Cats)
Act I: The Overture of Meows
Choir (soft, drawn-out, dramatic):
“Meeeeee-ooooow… oh meee-owwwww…
Our whiskers tremble, our tails all bow,
The night has come, the mice shall run,
We sharpen our claws—our hunt has begun!”
⸻
Act II: The Song of the Milk Bowl
Solo Soprano Cat (longing and dramatic):
“Ohhh, milk so creamy, milk so white,
I dream of you in the pale moonlight!
A saucer of glory, a puddle divine—
Please, dear human, say ‘the bowl is mine!’”
Choir (echoing like a heavenly chorus):
“Purr, purr, slurp, slurp—
Milk, milk, milk, milk!”
⸻
Act III: The Ballad of the Mice
Choir (fast and playful, staccato):
“Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!
Where are you hiding?—we peek, peek, peek!
Behind the chair? Beneath the stair?
No mouse escapes our operatic lair!”
⸻
Act IV: The Grand Finale – Moonlight Serenade
All Cats together (majestic, dramatic):
“Ooooh, the moon is our spotlight,
The rooftops our stage,
We sing to the stars,
And the world is our cage!
Meeeee-owwwww!
Meeeee-owwwww!
The curtain falls with a glorious purrrrrrrrrrrrr…”
