Coby lay on the hospital bed, his face contorted in agony as he tried to stifle a scream. Every breath felt like a knife piercing his chest, and the pain radiated down his arm in waves. The doctors and nurses buzzed around him, their urgent whispers barely registering in his mind. He had never felt so helpless and alone, even with the steady beep of the machines that monitored his vital signs. All he could do was clench his teeth and endure the agony, praying for relief or for the end to come quickly. In that moment, he couldn't imagine anything worse than the searing pain that had consumed him.
