But their arrogance would soon be shattered. The fortress they approached was one of the largest and strongest in the region, with high walls and skilled defenders. The barbarians knew that if they could conquer it, they would gain great riches and power. The defenders of the fortress, however, were not willing to give up without a fight. They had trained for years in the art of war, and they were determined to protect their home and families. As the barbarians approached the gates, the defenders unleashed a barrage of arrows and spears, cutting down many of the attackers before they could even reach the walls. But the barbarians were not deterred, and they charged forward, screaming and wielding their axes. The battle was fierce and brutal, with both sides suffering heavy losses.
