Navajo Kachina dancers are masked and costumed performers who represent different aspects of life, both natural and spiritual. They are believed to be messengers who bring blessings and nurture life. Kachina dancers also impersonate deified ancestral spirits, or Kachinas, who are thought to visit pueblos from time to time. The dancer becomes the spirit during the ritual dances.
