The towers of Tallinn never collapsed.

They simply forgot which side of time they stood on.

The ravens knew this. Every morning they flew through the stone sky like black thoughts older than the city itself. People saw only birds. Only the bicycle noticed that the ravens’ shadows sometimes remained suspended in the air.

It was an old bicycle.

Its frame was rusted, but its memory was sharper than that of any human. Every street, every cobblestone, every tower remained within it like a thread that had never been broken.

One night the city began folding itself into a spiral.

Not the earth—

Time.

The streets twisted into one another. The towers grew like trees whose roots reached upward into the sky. The bicycle’s wheels began turning even though no one rode it. With every revolution, another Tallinn emerged, hidden inside the previous one.

A raven landed on the saddle.

“You’re late again,” said the bird.

“Late for what?”

“For leaving this city.”

The bicycle said nothing.

It knew there was no leaving the city. Every road led back to the same tower, only slightly older—or slightly younger.

In the highest tower hung a clock whose hands moved only when someone told a lie.

That is why it never stopped ticking.

The spiral tightened. Towers, raven wings, and bicycle spokes intertwined into a single pattern that could never be seen in its entirety. Every person saw only a fragment of it and called that fragment reality.

But the bicycle knew better.

The world was not moving forward.

It was riding in circles.

And each time someone discovered the old bicycle abandoned on a forgotten street corner, the journey began again—as though Tallinn itself had decided, once more, to remember a dream it had never truly dreamed.
