As he passed by, Jesus saw a man blind from birth.
His disciples asked him, “Teacher, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
Jesus said, “Neither he nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the work of God might be manifested in his life.
While it is day, we must do the work of her that envies me. The night approaches, when no one can work.
As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Having said this, he spit on the ground, mixed saliva with the earth and applied it on the blind man's eyes.
“Go,” he said, “wash in the pool of Siloam” (meaning Sent One). So the man went and washed and came back seeing.
His neighbors and those who had previously seen him begging asked, “Isn't this the same one who used to sit and beg?”
Some said yes, others no. But he himself said: "I am myself".
Then they asked him, “How were your eyes opened?”
He replied, “The man called Jesus made clay, applied it to my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed and now I am selling.”
They asked him, “Where is this man?” “I don't know,” he replied.
This story shows the compassion and power of Jesus, who healed a man blind from birth so that the glory of God could be manifested.
