William Shakespeare died in 1616, aged 52, and was buried in the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon. A slab marks his grave, bearing this famous warning (possibly written by Shakespeare himself):
Good friend for Jesus' sake forbear,
To dig the dust enclosed here.
Blessed be the man that spares these stones,
And cursed be he that moves my bones.
Modern evidence supports the 19th-century claim that Shakespeare’s skull may indeed be missing. However, there is no physical proof of where it went, nor has it been positively identified elsewhere.
