Jesus and the Physical Sun
• Creation of God: The physical sun was made by God (Genesis 1:16). Jesus, as the divine Creator incarnate, made the physical world, including the sun (John 1:3-4).
• A Symbol, Not an Object of Worship: In Scripture, the physical sun is a creation that points to God's glory, not something to be worshiped. Jesus did not worship the sun; he worshiped the Father who made it.
• The "Sun of Righteousness": The Old Testament prophet Malachi used the sun as a metaphor for the coming Savior, writing that the "sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings" (Malachi 4:2).
• Morning Liturgy: Jews in Jesus' time recited blessings thanking God "who forms light and creates darkness."
• The "Dayspring": In Luke 1:78–79, Zachariah prophesies about Jesus using dawn imagery, calling him the dayspring (or sunrise) from on high who visits humanity to shine on those in darkness.
