ArtistBrittle bone disease A calm, warm everyday scene in a cozy living room: a european child of about 10 years old with brittle bone disease (osteogenesis imperfecta), small in stature and petite, sits securely positioned in a lightweight, modern wheelchair or on a well-upholstered armchair with stabilizing cushions. His parents sit next to him on the sofa, both looking at a picture book or tablet together, laughing, appearing focused and familiar – you can sense that they have found ways to adapt to everyday life together. Carefully integrated aids can be seen in the room: a low shelf so that the child can reach things themselves, perhaps a stair lift in the background or handrails in the hallway, a lightweight carbon wheelchair in a corner, a soft play mat on the floor. On the coffee table are crayons or a board game, arranged so that the child can play without having to contort themselves. The mood conveys both protection and independence: no overprotection, but a lovingly organized everyday life in which the child can act cautiously but as independently as possible, while the family is always nearby in case help is needed. Soft, warm evening light, natural colors, high level of detail, 4k, documentary photography, realistic, cozy home scene
Brittle bone disease, medically known as osteogenesis imperfecta, is a rare genetic disorder in which the bones are unusually fragile and unstable from birth. It is usually caused by changes in the genes for type I collagen, an important building block of bones, which can lead to fractures even under minor stress. In addition to increased bone fragility, patients often experience short stature, skeletal deformities (e.g., scoliosis), muscle weakness, blue sclera of the eyes, and problems with teeth and hearing, which can vary greatly in severity depending on the type of disease.
