A small human figure stands in shallow water. Behind it, an enormous arched outline rises and bends down on both sides, dwarfing the figure like an opening or creature. Loose lines across the top make the scale uncertain. A beautiful dark colourful oil painting. Tiny signature JKW
A highly textured impasto oil painting depicting a lone figure standing in shallow, reflective water, facing a colossal, arch-shaped rock formation. The rock arch is dark and multi-colored with thick, expressive brushstrokes in shades of blue, green, red, and orange, suggesting a vibrant, almost molten, interior or dynamic surface. Through the arch, a brilliant sunset or sunrise is visible, casting warm hues of orange, red, and yellow across the sky and reflecting brightly on the water's surface directly beneath the arch. The sky above the arch is dominated by heavy, dark, and turbulent impasto clouds, creating a dramatic contrast with the glowing horizon. The water around the figure and stretching into the foreground is a dark, swirling mass of reflective colors, with rich blues, greens, and streaks of orange and yellow reflecting the sky and the arch. The brush strokes are very thick and visible throughout the entire painting, giving it a tactile quality. The figure is small in scale compared to the arch, emphasizing the grandeur of the landscape. The overall mood is dramatic, awe-inspiring, and slightly mysterious, with a strong emphasis on light and shadow and a rich, saturated colour palette.
