There are still many homeless or very poor people in our rich countries and societies. But their best friends, their furry friends, are also affected by poverty. We must not forget that these pets are often the only friends these people have, and that is why it is good that there are not only food banks for people, but also animal food banks - although it is actually a shame for the country and society that such charitable, non-profit institutions/organizations are needed.

Many lonely older people often only have their pets as companions, friends and accompaniments. Therefore, it would not be correct to say that if you have little or no money, you should not have a pet.
Pets have, scientifically proven, an extremely positive effect on your well-being, your psyche, your health and your daily routine. Therefore, these advantages outweigh the costs, even if these people were to become ill or mentally ill, e.g. develop depression due to complete loneliness.

Finally, a general word about our furry friends: Anyone who gets a pet also takes on a great responsibility to look after their pet properly and to care for it in a species-appropriate manner.
As a thank you, you get so much love and great moments in return, the furry friends are balm for the soul.
The animal shelters are full of pets that are looking for a loving home with loving people, and animal welfare organizations also have many pets that can be placed in good hands.
I also got my current cat from the local animal welfare organization, and at first he looked really wild and ragged, and wasn't a cute kitten either, but an older, big "tiger", but everything has healed, and he is now a stately cat with velvety soft fur who loves to be cuddled and snuggled. In the end, the cat chose us and not we him, and my life has become much happier and more positive, as has his, a classic win-win situation.
