My beloved Pembroke Welsh Corgi Edward passed over the rainbow, one year ago on this very day, aged 15. Once in a lifetime you’ll get a dog like Edward and I miss him every single day.

The following poem was first published on my WordPress Blog on May 18th. It started with my mental health issues I experienced in 2025, bad experiences and dealing with life in general, a mess really, but it’s also a glorious tribute to Edward with a rewarding ending.

Still Here, Already Gone – Finally at Peace

Long time, no see — wow, what do you wanna be?
Be a fireman, doctor, lawyer — no, no,

YouTube's my mission, money my religion, golden and fast,
Fast as the monkey stealing my bananas,

Bananas — I'm going bananas over nothing, over everything,
Everything so tangled, so heavy — simplify, simplify,

Simplify until the blog means nothing, the pretending unbearable,
Unbearable — the pressure, the likes, the views, subscribers or die,

Die online in a massacre of scrolling, soul-crushing silence,
Silence is the island — distant, warm, beautifully boring,

Boring — I can't stand it, I'm a screen wizard, a glowing ghost,
Ghost of myself, gliding toward the digital land of unlimited opportunity,

Opportunity — hollow in 2025, desolate, drifting, no forward drive,
Drive me home, Edward — my dearest Corgi Pembroke, once in a lifetime,

Lifetime of devotion, you were there in my darkest cancer hour,
Hour after hour, your warm weight beside me, my pillar, my light,

Light that never dimmed — even as your hind legs surrendered,
Surrendered to stillness, I built you wings from a harness,

Harness your spirit, keep moving, keep moving my boy,
Boy and his dog — no, deeper, a covenant, a sacred oath,

Oath kept until the end, until the rainbow called your name,
Name I still whisper — Edward, Edward, truly present, truly gone,

Gone but threaded through the colours of the eternal rainbow,
Rainbow and a headbutt, broken nose, extraordinary metaphysical fire,

Fire and pure bliss — one split second — brain switched off,
Off and then the biggest disappointment: falling back into my body,

Body carrying more disappointments, human connections unraveling,
Unraveling — I do my part and step apart from the rest of the human race,

Race toward rest — I need rest, but not in this life,
Life is beautiful — run, Doron, my sweet Corgi Cardigan puppy, run,

Run — I run from the hurt, the pain, the depression,
Depression and mostly I shy away from people,

People get ready — Rosalía, sing me "Magnolias" one more time as I leave,
Leave this plane of existence — I never asked to walk the Earth,

Earth returns to dust, and dust to stardust, death the great leveler,
Leveler and liberator, a cosmic celebration, Heaven brushing close,

Close my eyes — Edward waiting, truly present, once in a lifetime,
Lifetime complete — finally at peace,

Peace in the stars where I belong.
