This dream includes 'Night on Earth', which is a 1991 comedy-drama anthology film written, directed and produced by Jarmusch. It is a collection of five vignette-type studies of the temporary bond formed between taxi driver and passenger in five cities: Los Angeles, New York City, Paris, Rome, and Helsinki. According to Wikipedia Jarmusch wrote the screenplay in approximately eight days, and the choice of certain cities was largely based on the actors with whom he wanted to work. Tom Waits did the soundtrack.
'Coffee and Cigarettes' is a 2003 independent anthology film written and directed by Jarmusch. The film consists of eleven standalone scenes. Themes are often comedic and depressed, and share coffee and cigarettes as a common thread.
And 'Dead Man' is a 1995 'acid Western' film, written and directed by Jarmusch. Shot entirely in monochrome, he described it as a "Psychedelic western". Johnny Depp was the star and, in one of his final film performances, Robert Mitchum played the character John Dickinson. Also Neil Young composed the guitar-dominated soundtrack with portions he improvised while watching the movie footage.
Jim Jarmusch is one of my favorite American directors, along with John Sayles.
