The book display had several power sources. It possessed a replaceable battery, similar to a lithium-ion battery, which could be recharged or exchanged at specific locations, as a comprehensive power supply did not exist in this world. Narada was a unique blend of futuristic technology and the Venetian era.

To protect against malfunctions, a crystalline energy core was also integrated. This functioned similarly to Sima's own self-healing mechanism, but required external energy sources—such as illuminated billboards or crystal nebulae, which were found in places where the crystalline intelligence was present.

The device automatically drew energy from its environment to first charge the central storage; any excess energy then flowed into the battery. Despite the thin, foil-like pages on which images and information appeared, the book display proved surprisingly robust. When folded and closed, it was impervious to moisture and rain. The book pages could be replaced via plug connectors if necessary, should they become scratched or damaged.
