Waacking is a dance style that emerged in the LGBTQ+ clubs of Los Angeles in the 1970s, created by queer Black and Latino dancers. They used dramatic arm lines and expressive poses to claim space, visibility, and identity. The style is known for fast arm rotations, sharp poses, musicality, and expressive handwork, blending precision with theatrical flair. It’s really awesome to watch. Incredibly powerful. Today, waacking is practiced worldwide in studios, battles, and performance scenes, evolving through contemporary dancers and queer communities while still carrying its original spirit of expression and self‑definition.
