I got this idea from reading the book The City of Ember, when Lina walks in and finds her crazy old grandmother tearing up the house looking for the special box, even not even the grandma knew what she was looking for at the time. Fyi: you should definately watch and read The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. Great story.
