After two terrible world wars, a centuries-old hereditary enmity - not arch enmity - became a close and good friendship, because in the decisive moments in politics, great men like Charles de Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer recognized that one had to break through hatred and enmity in order to be able to live together in peace in the future. In doing so, they laid the foundation for a modern, united Europe, which not only stands for economic interests, but also for peace, freedom and culture. It would be nice if other countries and peoples could learn from this. Marianne and Michel shake hands.
