I've been having great fun working with prompts beginning with opening lines to various novels. This one is the opening line of 'The Haunting of Hill House' by Shirley Jackson. It seems an unlikely opening for a horror story, but 'The Haunting of Hill House' has a lot of insight into broken people and their vulnerabilities. Meanwhile the AI, having never read the novel, has a rather different take on the quote.
