An atmospheric fine art fauvist oil painting in the style of Vincent van Gogh, of The Village, which is the deserted crofting settlement on St. Kilda, one of the most dramatic remote islands west of the Hebrides, in Scotland. The island coast has extremely high, dramatic sea cliffs, with waterspouts and natural arches and free-standing rock pillars. and The village is in a grassy but rocky area by the coast, with deserted grey granite croft houses, partly ruinous, and a church visible. Some wild horned sheep with very long wool, mixed brown and white , are grazing amongst the houses. The village area is a small part of the island, it has a small jetty. Surrounding it are the very steep hillsides which reach over 1300 feet above sea level. Grassy but rocky. The coast apart from the village area has very dramatic sea cliffs, some of the highest in Europe. The island is surrounded by a wild, choppy deep blue ocean with white wave crests and breakers. There are some fulmar and gannet birds flying from the cliffs where they nest. The surrounding sea is depicted with dynamic, swirling brushstrokes of navy, turquoise, and white foam crashing against the rocky shoreline. The sky is a dramatic mix of heavy, layered grey and silver clouds. The van Gogh style features rich impasto textures, visible palette knife marks, and a saturated colour palette, evoking remote wild solitude amidst a wild sea and powerful nature.
