Magic Pebbles - Based on the story of John Wayne Schlatter:
One evening, a group of nomadic horsemen were preparing to go to bed when suddenly a blinding light surrounded them. They knew that some heavenly being had appeared to them. They eagerly awaited the heavenly message, which would surely have a special meaning.
Finally the voice said:
- Collect as many pebbles as you can! Put it in the saddlebag, then go on your way, and tomorrow night you will be happy and sad at the same time.
After the apparition disappeared, the shepherds looked at each other in disappointment. They expected that the eternal secrets of existence would be revealed to them, through which they could give wealth, health and purpose to the world. Instead, they were assigned some pointless, soulless job. However, the memory of the dazzling glow prompted them to stoop down to pick up some pebbles and stuff them into their saddlebags, grumbling angrily.
After a day of wandering, they made camp, and as they reached into their saddlebags, they discovered that all the pebbles they had picked up had turned into diamonds. They were happy with the gems and regretted not collecting more pebbles.
