A woman with vibrant rainbow-colored hair and elaborate black and floral tattoos on her face and neck.
"Medical tattooing" is about depicting skin and body shapes true to nature. Those affected often feel that large scars stigmatize them. This applies to scars that are the result of self-harm, such as cuts on the forearms. But also for scars from surgery, accidents or burns. Camouflage only helps for a few hours. However, as "medical make-up", a tattoo can permanently improve the appearance of the skin. Names for medical tattoos are Micropigmentation and medical dermopigmentation. In English-speaking countries, however, we understand "medical tattoos" to mean information about the blood group or a diabetes condition that is tattooed. What we call a "medical tattoo" is called a "paramedical tattoo" there.
