Little Bunny sat on the slick cobblestones, ears drooping beneath the steady patter of rain. The world felt so very big and the night so very cold. Her fur, once soft and fluffy, clung to her tiny body in wet clumps, and she wished more than anything that someone would notice the trembling sign she held: “Take Me Home.”
She listened to the tap-tap-tap of footsteps that hurried past. Coats and umbrellas brushed by in a blur, not once pausing for the small creature in their midst. The lampposts above glowed in gentle circles of light, but to Bunny they felt distant—like warm embers just out of reach. A single tear slipped from her eye, mingling with the raindrops on her whiskers.
But then—soft as a whisper—she sensed a presence kneeling beside her. A hand, warm and sure, reached out beneath the gold-tinted lamplight. Bunny’s heart fluttered as she lifted her gaze. Someone had finally stopped. With the lightest touch, the stranger gathered Bunny into their arms. The sign fell away, sopping wet, but it no longer mattered. At that moment, wrapped in gentle warmth and kindness, Bunny knew she had found shelter from the storm—and the promise of a place to belong.
