Quiet Mornings
The dawn, in robes of silver pale,
Crept softly through the casement high;
It stirred no leaf, it breathed no gale,
But laid its hush where pages lie.
A crimson berry, bright and small,
Grew wondrous in the tempered light;
As though the simplest gifts of all
Could hold the heart till day grew bright.
So let this tranquil hour remain,
Uncounted by the hurried day;
