The video symbolizes how many people "do" life when trauma isn't addressed and how that process hijacks physiology and normalizes "survival mode" existence.
Traumatic experiences that go unacknowledged, are dismissed, or handled in a 'one-size-fits-all" formulaic manner have life-altering and physiologically-altering consequences. Trauma at any age can rewire the brain. In young people, this often sets behavioral/functional trajectories.
Kids are in a state of development, so the foundation of their identity is already on shifting sands. Trauma is more than an event, it is an ongoing experience of adaptation. It's dependent on support - what the kid takes on alone is a catalyst for how they can wrongly determine their value, identity and safety in the world. It's a figurative translation of a language they don't speak.
Trauma impacts neural evolution and nervous system regulation. Autonomic baselines change and become the 'new normal' - fully outside conscious choice/awareness.
Such kids are expected to develop an identity under circumstances they can't grasp, i.e. interpreting interpersonal and societal cues which are key to wiring coping mechanisms --- based on survival and internal narratives, observational rules of engagement - all of which are beyond their stage of development and relationship to the "wound." They aren't aware of being influenced by adults with unhealthy coping mechanisms.
It is more likely and normal for kids to blame themselves at the core, than reason mitigating factors.
Popular framing that later generations are coddled or over-sensitivity doesn't take into account what the world was like or how it and society evolved.
While I'm addressing "Virginias" (Giuffre and victims), I'm also referring to what's being normalized and hard-wired into kids by society's flooding messages, (denials, deflections) as well as any number of events that can be traumatizing, and series of traumatizing events.
I think society doesn't collectively realize how unresolved traumatic events have physiological, psychological and societal components that have an effect on ability of choice.
To my thinking, this leads to an erosion in basic humanity / empathy which in turn facilitates the cycle of trauma, harm, shame and purposefully avoids real solutions while actively relocating the hurting out of sight lines.
Well, this turned into something I didn't intend!
