More about Feathered Friends

Feathered Friends
come and go,
as you may know
on the stage
of the morning,
each taking
a turn
within the song
of the rising sun.
Hear the long sing song call
of the Chickadee—
and in the distance
a Crow,
the happy-tap-tapping
of the nut-hatch
as up and down
the tree
it goes.
Listen for
the Sparrow's
pip-pipping
or the piercing call
of the Jay
that clears
air of any
care that may
have been left
from
yesterday.
Look up high
in the sky—
for only your
heart knows
why you
may sigh
with the
Swallow's
Freedom
Song.
Have you heard
of the Grasshopper bird,
(it's such a curious name),
If you listen,
you are sure
to understand
for it trills
just the same.
The Or-ee-ole
comes and goes,
with a kind of
circle song
all around
the tree tops
laughing
all day long.
The Warbler's voice
rolls on and on
like the waves
of the sea—
and there's a bird
that can be heard
popping repeatedly.
From the start,
all impart
their voice
within the
chorus
that
fills the air—
then comes
a slowing down
as they come
to the
ground
to have their
breakfast.
Yet, this is when
one may still hear
a Solo Song, like
that of the catbird
(yes, a cat-bird)
who can go on
for 20 minutes
or more,
and never
repeat a
single
score.
All may be heard
from dawn to dusk
'til they tuck themselves
in for the 'morrow
to begin again,
but never the same—
a happy song, for
they've let go
yesterday's sorrow.
Yes, all may be heard
from dawn to dusk,
Listen.
