ArtistA terrible event struck the canvas in 1913. For the first time in Russia, an act of vandalism has occurred. In the hall of the Tretyakov Gallery, a novice iconographer hysterically attacked Ivan the Terrible with a knife in his hands. The canvas was severely damaged. The restorers managed to heal the wounds on the canvas, but the young man's soul remained crippled. Abram Balashov, that was the young man's name, ended up in a clinic for the mentally ill. The pressure on the audience of Tsar Ivan the Terrible did not end there. In May 2018, the painting was damaged again. The bully broke the safety glass and struck several ominous blows.
