The cat took advantage of the fact that this heater has the heating regulator unusually low, and that there was a bucket of cold water next to it, in which a rag was soaked. The cat hangs a cold wet rag on the regulator and it increases the temperature, because it will be cooled. The cat can then warm itself on the heater. When the rag dries, the cat either goes to eat, or it soaks the rag in the bucket again and returns on the top of the heater to sleep again.
