  • Prompt: We walked up the mountain, passing hundreds of statues on our way. Other walkers dotted the landscape, but from a distance they looked like toys among the rocks. An array of buildings cast their shadows on the dry, rough ground. The small statues that seemed to kneel by the path were wrapped with colorful scraps of cloth that made them look like people. Every where, stones had been piled up in unnatural forms, and everything was strangely silent. I felt like we were in a dreamscape. When I looked back over my shoulder, the green mountains seemed to loom behind me. We climbed up among great gray boulders, between jets of steam that erupted to our left and right.
