the birds’ songs, the splash of water on stone

Fires lose their intensity

Light recedes, day by

We were warned long ago

That evil would awaken again

Poisoning and corrupting our world

I am Elondir, bearer of ember-oath

Chosen by the kin of leaf and starlight

Warden of the Ever-kindled Flame

A weapon of choice against the vanishing day

My people stand ready for the coming storm

The time is near — prepare we must

For when the world turns dim

Darkness is on the move
