La Tribu Arc-en-Ciel de Joséphine Baker

Twelve worlds gathered
Around one remarkable heart
A family blooms
Between 1951 and 1964, Joséphine Baker and her husband, Jo Bouillon, adopted twelve children — two girls and ten boys — of different nationalities, cultures and religions. Raised at the Château des Milandes in the Dordogne, they embodied Baker’s ideal of universal brotherhood.
Joséphine Baker’s twelve children, known collectively as her famous Tribu Arc-en-Ciel, grew up to form a remarkably diverse family. As adults, several of them have continued to preserve their mother’s memory and her ideals of tolerance and fraternity.
Joséphine Baker was inducted into the Panthéon in November 2021.
