Compose the portrait of a strange sustainable robotic creature with windmills and solar panels and nuclear reactors
The idea that we can power a world addicted to economic growth with “sustainable” energy may be the Great Illusion of our time. Including nuclear energy in the “green” category also seems questionable: we enjoy cheap electricity today, while the costs of decommissioning plants and managing nuclear waste are effectively passed on to the next 100 - if not 1000 - generations. For the origin of the expression, see the 1909 book The Great Illusion (this other illusion also seems to remain very relevant).
