On December 4, 1872, the crew of the Dei Gratia discovered the Mary Celeste, a two-masted ship tossing in the Atlantic Ocean, drifting towards the shores of Europe without a crew, but with an almost undamaged cargo and seaworthy condition.
None of the passengers of the Mary Celeste ever made it to shore, so the public, susceptible to horror stories, and some writers with vivid imaginations soon spun a real legend around the "ghost ship". Over the decades, imaginative legend makers tried to explain the mystery mainly with the help of sea monsters and extraterrestrial beings, and some even connected the tragedy of the Mary Celeste with the Bermuda Triangle...
