ArtistOften, when something goes wrong, the system is blamed. The system is created by people and maintained by them. However, the collective is often stronger than the individual. It evokes a comparison with the Borg in Star Trek. A collective that assesses a threat, chooses to ignore or assimilate if it sees value in it. Resistance is futile. In a work environment, a situation arises where a system offers advantages to a group of people: managers, strategists, policymakers, and of course, the yes-men on the shop floor. That's just how we do things here. Dogmas become defining, as if the system were a belief that you must unconditionally impose and propagate. Resistance is futile. Anyone who expresses surprise, refutes, or resists is quickly seen as a dissonant force who throws a wrench in the system's machinery, who is seen as a threat to positions. The desire to be well-being within an all-consuming yet well-oiled machine becomes paramount. What you contribute to the system is the value you are assigned. The promise that your life will improve if you just believe in the system. Resistance is futile. The system then becomes a self-perpetuating entity, one that sees clients as a source of income but no longer as human beings.
