An elf owl, smallest of the owl species, peeks out from a cactus hole, observing with anticipation a beetle unsuspectingly approaching the saguaro cactus. Despite their tiny size, elf owls have no problem eating arthropods such as moths, crickets, scorpions, centipedes, and beetles.
