The biblical account in the Book of Daniel, chapter 3, describes King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon commanding all his officials to bow down and worship a golden image he had erected
. Three Jewish men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, refused to do so, demonstrating their faithfulness to God. In response, Nebuchadnezzar ordered the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than usual and had the three men bound and thrown into the fiery furnace. The intense heat killed the soldiers who threw them in.
However, to the astonishment of the King and his advisors, they saw four figures walking unharmed in the flames, according to Wikipedia. The fourth figure is described as resembling "a son of God" or "a son of the gods" in different translations of the text. Many Christians believe this refers to Jesus Christ in a pre-incarnate appearance. Other theories suggest it was an angel
