I have a special relationship with Nessie. When I was four years old my family lived for a few weeks in a London hotel while my parents looked for housing. I was convinced that Nessie inhabited the hotel's sewer system and would pop up through the toilet bowl and drag me down; we rapidly became friends with our neighbours so that I could use their loo.
