Pilgrim stepped down upon the hard soil of China. A red afterglow of sunset, incredibly theatrical, still lighted the western sky, and the purple hills were a dark fresco along the borders of evening; their jagged peaks, he thought, were like monstrous cutouts measured against a backdrop of fire and blood, upon a stage set for colossal drama.
The prompt comes from "Murder in Peking" a book written by Vincent Starrett in 1946. I was just curious what DDG would do with a description like that. The start image was one of my earlier attempts.
