"The church had been torn in half, the entire center of the sanctuary completely gone. The steeple creaked dangerously on its last two supports. Later we would find a crater on the other side that told the story. For now, what was left pointed our eyes to the heavens, as if reaching for what had inspired its worshippers to build it in the first place, and crying out that It would send them back."
