More about Pike Women on Grassy Field

A very wide-shot, sunny, digital painting of an army of 16th century pike women, standing in neat rows, with their pikes planted on the ground and pointing up. The pike women wear colorful clothes, with different hats, and they stand on a light brown grassy field. To the left, a small group of pike women are seen facing toward the right, planting their pikes in the ground, and standing in a line of four. The field to the left of the image is wide and goes on until it meets the horizon, where two small mountains can be seen in the background. The sky is bright blue and cloudless. The lighting is sunny and harsh, casting very thin, long shadows of the pikes on the ground, pointing to the left. The camera is slightly above eye level.

This comes from a Computer game although I can't quite tell what the game is. It depicts a scene from the English Civil War and illustrates nicely the forest of pikes that made up much of the army in those days. The scene is just a bit enhanced with the same image of a bamboo fence. This is roughly around 1650 when the civil war raged, but one of the cultural landmarks of England was the publishing at that time of the Playford music and dance book, The Dancing Master. Such a publication had never really existed before any more than a commune in which people raised their crops and ate their food without paying rent to any land lord had never existed in living memory.
