Late afternoon in a rundown section of town, one trash bin in the alley has been overturned, a fierce-looking rat is perched on one trash bin, most of the buildings have been abandoned, one tavern is open, you can see a light and people drinking and gambling dimly through a dirty window, a couple of rough fellows are in line at the door, from which most of the original green paint has peeled away, there are a few small bullet holes in the door, the name on the worn door plate declares this to be The King's Court,
A grimy oil painting depicts a dreary, dystopian tavern where only disreputable men come to drink and gamble. In the foreground, two men wait to be admitted. The sign above the door is still readable, but the door is peeling and weathered, and appears to have a couple of bullet holes. Behind the men, a snarling rat sits on top of a wooden trash can, he's been interrupted in his trash scavenging. The overall color palette is muted, dominated by browns, grays, and ochres, creating a bleak and desolate atmosphere.
