One of the first CDROM based video games was Myst, which used 3D raytraced images and a hypertext -like UI to take you from one game location to another. You had to collect the red and blue pages, and return them to the base on Myst Island, in order to free one of two sons of Atrus and Catherine, who had imprisoned them for destroying many of the linking books.
