Terrorbirds or giant cranes (Phorusrhacidae) were large to very large, floor -diving and mostly unable to fly birds, whose fossils were found primarily in South America. They took up the role of the toproters during the paleogen and neogenic in South America. Traditionally, a relationship with the crane birds (Gruiformes) is accepted. Ten genres and 25 species were described. The oldest way is paleopterus itaboraiensis from the middle paleocene (ITaboraium) by Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). The first terrorist bird Phorusrhacos Longissimus was described in 1887 by the Argentine naturalist Florentino Ameghino after a find in the Argentine province of Santa Cruz.
