Oil painting on canvas of a young woman with long, curly brown hair tied up with a blue ribbon, sitting in an ornate beige armchair with gold accents, reading a brown book. She wears an indigo blue dress with a floral pattern, a white lace collar with a blue ribbon, and blue puffed sleeves. Her feet are clad in black sandals with gold buckles and straps, showing her painted toenails. Beside her, a small round wooden table holds a stack of three books topped with a lit brass-and-glass oil lamp. Below the table, another stack of eight books rests on the floor next to a tabby cat gazing upwards. The room features a window with a green curtain, and a gold-framed mirror on the wall reflects the woman. The walls are a textured cream color and the floor appears to be cream-colored tiles.
