Some dwellings are on pilings, some are houseboats hug the shoreline of a backwater slough in a busy Atlantic harbour - circa 1933. Beside the Ford are tattered fishing nets hang on racks in front of some shacks and old wooden fishing boat who’s windows are lit showing that someone is working on the boat The buildings are mere shacks made from scraps of lumber, old doors and tarpaper and are in extreme disrepair. The slough is quite narrow, made worse by dilapidated docks, neglected old rowboats, small launches and shanties that are partly on land and partly on pilings over the oily water. There are the remains of long sunken boats as well as flotsam in the murky oily water. The shanties have electricity provided by a hodgepodge of utility poles and wiring which crisscrosses the waterway with two dim street lamps strung across the waterway light the scene. Through windows of most of the dwellings can be seen filtered light diffused by filthy curtains and dirty and cracked glass. Dark clouds from a recent rainstorm block most of the moon’s light.
