What does the moon have to do with Jesus?
We merely reflect the light of Jesus by believing in him and walking in his Spirit. As witnesses, we are reflectors of Christ's light to others just like the moon reflects the light of the sun.
Jesus (the moon) is a light which shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not been able to put it out.
The moon contrasts here the sun as symbol of fulfillment, in other words, the New Testament, more specifically Jesus Christ himself, the sol invictus.
In Christianity, the moon symbolizes Jesus, the Son of God. The sun is symbolic of the Father God. The earth is symbolic of us mortal human beings.
“No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is at the Father’s side, has made Him known.” — Gospel of John 1:18
