This is an attempt to illustrate the cause of my downfall in an early Spelling Bee (first or second grade?) which clearly still irks me. My word was "ferry" given in the illustrative sentence "The ferry took the children safely across the water." A voracious reader of fairy tales, I immediately envisioned the scene depicted here, spelled F-A-I-R-Y, was eliminated, protested vociferously to no avail.
