Artist
(A Dadaist Play in One Dissolution)
Characters:
• LUNA – A reflective sphere who forgets she is light.
• HEAD – A silhouette filled with rotating moons.
• CRATER – A hole that speaks only in echoes of itself.
• CUBE – The shape of all forgotten beginnings.
• STATIC – The chorus of unmeasured silence.
⸻
Scene:
A gray landscape. A hole, a head, and a moon orbit a single missing idea.
(A low hum of nothingness)
LUNA: I was once silver. Now I am theory.
HEAD: I am thought thinking itself. I’ve misplaced my orbit.
(A pause filled with invisible dust)
CRATER: (from below)
Everything falls up here. Down is a superstition invented by poets.
CUBE: (appears from the pit)
I am the geometry of confession. Please place your secrets inside me, unwrapped.
STATIC:
zzz—The mind is a vacuum cleaner for the cosmos—zzz
(The moon flickers, becomes two moons, then none.)
HEAD:
I contain a smaller moon that dreams of water.
Each tide is a pulse of forgotten mathematics.
LUNA:
Then drown me in your equations, darling silhouette.
I’ll shine until your neurons bloom into dust.
CRATER:
Silence! The audience is listening to their own breathing.
How indecent.
(A long pause. The cube hums softly.)
CUBE:
Do not mistake clarity for meaning.
Do not mistake sound for existence.
Do not mistake me for art.
STATIC:
zzz—Transmission: consciousness is the last illusion of gravity—zzz
HEAD:
If I exhale, will I lose my atmosphere?
If I inhale, will I steal yours?
LUNA:
Both. Neither. The universe prefers contradictions—it wears them as jewelry.
(The crater closes. The cube dissolves. The moon swells to fill the stage.)
HEAD:
I see myself inside you, inverted.
A thought circling a thought that has forgotten why it began.
LUNA:
Exactly. Now whisper the formula for nothing.
HEAD:
(whispers)
Zero equals every possible reflection.
(Silence. The light inverts. Everything becomes black except the outline of a single breath.)
STATIC:
zzz—End of transmission—zzz
(Curtain does not fall. It hovers.)
