Hendrik van Keten kept a narrow room of books where the air held the weight of ink and quiet hours. He copied passages not to preserve them, but to hear what remained after the copying. Each line shifted slightly under his hand, as if the text were remembering itself through him. Visitors spoke; he listened without reply. At dusk he closed the book and waited. Something unfinished moved just beyond the last word.
