In the Middle Ages, "the man's stork" was one of the many paraphrases for "penis". This explains the picture that the stork bit the mother's leg. The stork pulls the frogs out of the pond and eats them. Since he allegedly bit the mother's leg, it seems likely that he also brings the children he took from the well of life. This motif has been attested since 1678.
