In other words, Jesus' message will naturally create division; this "sword" will divide the world into those who believe in Him and those who do not.
When Jesus said He had come to send a sword. He meant that He had also come to give a sword to each person that chose His side rather than choosing the adversary's side. For Jesus did not come to send a sword to those on the adversary's side. For instead, he wants to disarm those who are not on His side.
